Fedwire® Funds Service Volume-Based Pricing

The Federal Reserve Banks base prices for the Fedwire Funds Service on each customer's monthly message volume. We calculate each customer's message volume by summing all messages (funds transfers as well as non-value service messages) sent and received.

The Federal Reserve calculates prices as follows:

  • $0.26 each for the first 3,000 messages
  • $0.17 each for messages beyond 3,000 up to 90,000
  • $0.08 each for messages beyond 90,000

To aid in reconcilement, the Federal Reserve Banks provide monthly statements reporting the number of items sent and received for your institution's information. If you wish to reconcile items sent and received separately, be aware that the Federal Reserve Banks calculate your cumulative volume for the month each day. Our system counts items sent first, then items received. Thus, the volume associated with items sent will be billed first (at a potentially higher fee if one of the volume thresholds is surpassed on that day).

Monthly volume includes the sum of volume generated by the master accounts and any related subaccounts.

Example

Account Msgs Sent Msgs Received Total Msgs Calculation Total Billed
Master Account 25,000 25,000 50,000
Subaccount S 12,000 12,000 24,000

Your monthly statement includes subaccount activity for informational purposes only. If you are interested in reconciling your billing statement at the subaccount level, be aware that the Federal Reserve Banks calculate the cumulative volume daily, in routing number order. Thus, the volume associated with accounts and/or subaccounts with lower routing numbers will be billed first (at a potentially higher fee if one of the volume thresholds is surpassed on that day).
