Treasury Investment Program (TIP)

The Treasury Investment Program (TIP) is a centralized Federal Reserve Bank application that receives tax collections, monitors collateral pledged to secure public money and places the funds with participating financial institutions. Financial institutions are charged interest for use of the funds and return the funds when the Treasury needs money to meet its financial obligations.

TIP receives tax deposit information from the three electronic tax payment mechanisms: the Federal Reserve Electronic Tax Application (FR-ETA), the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), and the Paper Tax System (PATAX).

Using collateral information received from the National Book Entry System (NBES) and the Collateral Management System (CMS), the Treasury monitors the collateral pledged for TIP investment accounts to help prevent collateral deficiencies.
