As part of our ongoing commitment to stay vigilant with security and evolving industry standards, all FedLine Advantage® and FedLine Command® customers will be required to replace their current Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices with a more contemporary solution at no additional cost for the new device. As previously communicated, the Federal Reserve Banks have launched the multi-year VPN Device Migration project.
First Coast Federal Credit Union (Off-site), a FedLine Advantage® customer that utilizes the solution for services such as Automated Clearing House (ACH) and Check, was one of the first organizations to take the leap into the VPN Device Migration. The Jacksonville, Florida credit union was chartered in 1935 and has $9 million in assets. Manager Susan Cantrell recently shared her organization’s experience with its VPN migration.
What to expect
Clear instructions from the Federal Reserve helped guide First Coast Federal Credit Union through the migration process. “We are a small staff, so when you think of a migration, you might get nervous, but everything went smoothly,” Cantrell said.
When it is time for your organization to take action, the Federal Reserve Banks will instruct one of your End User Authorization Contacts (EUACs) to facilitate the migration order, via the Connection Management Center (CMC) within FedLine® Home, in your designated timeframe. Your organization’s designated EUAC will receive an email notification that migration instructions are available in My Messages, which is also available via FedLine Home.
To help your organization complete your migration as easily as First Coast Federal Credit Union, be sure to review the resources and documentation available to you. The setup for your new VPN device will be similar to the setup for your current device, so this migration should be straightforward and require minimal to no changes to your environment. However, we do recommend that your organization review your network and firewall settings per the FedLine Advantage® VPN Device Access Requirements to help ensure continued compliance prior to your migration. This document, along with other FedLine VPN resources and documentation, is located in the Help Center of the CMC, which your FedLine Advantage EUACs can access via FedLine Home.
Ready to migrate?
If you are interested in migrating your VPN device prior to receiving additional migration communications, a FedLine Advantage EUAC can submit a migration order at any point by accessing the CMC. Please select the defaulted “Migrate current VPN” option on the CMC order screen to complete your migration order. Please note that a credentialed Technical Contact at your organization can also assist with completing the migration order in the CMC; however, an EUAC must start the order and submit it.
Cantrell’s tip to migrating organizations is to include a Technical Contact from the beginning. “I made sure our IT person was included in the project from the start in case he had any questions,” she said. “Then when it was time to migrate, he came in, and it was done in a few minutes.”
