The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Fiscal Service) will retire the Treasury Check Verification Application (TCVA) later this year. A future notice will be published with the exact retirement date for TCVA.
All financial organizations will be directed to its replacement, the Treasury Check Verification System (TCVS) (Off-site). TCVS provides check verification through a website – similar to TCVA for single queries – and a more robust application programming interface (API) to allow for the automation of bulk queries. The required elements to query a check remain the same:
- Check symbol
- Serial number
- Dollar amount
- Routing Transit Number of the financial institution conducting the query
The API for TCVS may be requested using the form posted under Terms and Conditions (Off-site) on the TCVS website. Security controls prevent screen scraping and scripts for high volume queries on the website, so the API is highly recommended for organizations processing high Treasury check volumes.
TCVS is operational and already used by several financial organizations. TCVS is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for a short daily maintenance window between 6:00 a.m. EST and 6:30 a.m. EST, when needed.
