FedNow® Service Operating Hours

General Operating Hours1

The FedNow Service operates on a 24-hour funds transfer business day (FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day) each day of the week, including weekends and Federal Reserve Bank holidays. The FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day differs from the calendar day from the start of each FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day at approximately 7:01 p.m. ET until midnight on that calendar day.

As described in Operating Circular 8, the Federal Reserve Banks may delay the start of a new FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day or otherwise extend a cutoff time for the FedNow Service.

For purposes of Regulation J and Article 4A, the Federal Reserve may treat any payment messages received within the time limit set forth in the FedNow Service Operating Procedures prior to the end of a FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day (also referred to as cycle date rollover) as if those payment messages were received on the next FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day.

Operating Hours for Instant Payment Messages

  • The FedNow Service begins processing Instant Payment Messages for the next FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day at approximately 7:01 p.m. ET on the previous calendar day.
  • The FedNow Service ends processing of Instant Payment Messages for the current FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day and rolls over to the next at approximately 7:01 p.m. ET on each calendar day.
  • The start of each FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day immediately follows the end of the previous FedNow Service Funds Transfer Business Day, with no disruption in message or transaction processing.
