Penny Order and Deposit Information

The Federal Reserve is working with coin terminals to analyze penny inventory on a weekly basis and will continue to fulfill orders of pennies as inventory allows. Our monitoring of the flow of penny deposits from financial institutions will determine whether some subsequent expansion of ordering options for pennies is feasible.

Customers whose endpoints are connected to a location that does not have available inventory to fulfill orders of pennies on behalf of the Federal Reserve will see error messages in the FedCash Services application via the FedLine Web^® or FedLine Advantage^® Solution when attempting to place orders that use the affected endpoint and contain the penny denomination. Federal Reserve Bank customers should regularly check the FedCash Services application for further details and updates about these error messages.

Please note that as of March 23, a subset of coin distribution locations that previously stopped fulfilling penny orders on behalf of the Federal Reserve will begin fulfilling them again. See below for detailed information by location.

If customers see error messages in the Place Order and File Upload areas of the FedCash Services application while attempting to place orders that contain the penny denomination, that specific endpoint is connected to a coin distribution location that is no longer fulfilling orders of pennies.

Customers may create and submit their orders for pennies separately from their orders for other denominations, especially when placing large numbers of orders close to an ordering deadline using the File Upload feature. There are no additional charges or fees associated with placing orders for pennies separately.

If a customer receives an error message while trying to place an order that contains the penny denomination, they should remove pennies from the order and resubmit it. They can also try ordering again using a different existing endpoint they already have access to. If a customer is unable to place an order for pennies using any of their existing endpoints, they will need to explore alternative solutions for acquiring pennies.
