Fedwire Funds Service Upcoming Releases

On November 16, 2026, the Fedwire Funds Service intends to implement the following changes to ensure interoperability with modifications that Swift®and CHIPS® (peer operator) will make:

  • Remove the fully unstructured postal address option in favor of a single hybrid postal address format for all parties and agents across all message types (i.e., remove three free-text lines of 35 characters each, require town name and country, and allow the option to include other structured address elements such as two free-text lines of up to 70 characters each)
  • Make enhancements to the investigation messages (camt.110/camt.111) to enable better structuring of frequently used investigation use cases
  • Implement additional enhancements to the FedPayments Manager – Funds application (e.g., provide Create Payment Return feature for past messages)
To ensure customers have access to six months of testing in the DIT2 environment, the changes outlined above will be available in the DIT2 environment starting in May 2026. Updated format specifications and guides (e.g., usage guidelines, Implementation Guide, Quick Reference Guide, Technical Guide) are available on the Fedwire Funds Service Release 2026 page within the MyStandards portal by Swift.

FedLine Advantage® Solution users: A FedPayments Manager – Funds scope document is available in the "Help" link that reflects the November 2026 release changes.

Testing requirements

Given the large number of customers, service providers and software vendors we need to support for ISO 20022 testing ahead of the November 2026 release, we developed the following testing requirements using a risk-based approach. Please contact our Wholesale Testing Services with any questions.

Testing group

The following groups will be required to complete testing as specified in the DIT2 testing section. All other customers, service providers and software vendors are highly recommended to complete testing.

  • Higher-volume FedLine Direct® service providers (approximately 1,000 outgoing messages on average per day)
  • Significant FedLine Direct software vendors
  • National Accounts/Payments Risk Committee
  • Bankers’ Banks/Corporate Credit Unions (in-house build)
  • Designated Financial Market Utilities (DFMUs)
  • Higher-volume FedLine Advantage import/upload users (100 outgoing messages on average per day)

DIT2 testing

Mandatory testing groups will be required to participate in at least two peer testing days coordinated by Federal Reserve Financial Services (FRFS) and to submit a readiness attestation to their relationship manager.
