Testing Frequently Asked Questions
DIT2 Onboarding
- Is there a DIT2 onboarding requirement for Fedwire® Funds Service customers that use a service provider or the FedPayments® Manager® Funds application?
The DIT2 onboarding process only applies to Fedwire Funds Service customers, service providers and software vendors that have their own FedLine Direct® connections to the DIT environment. It does not apply to customers that use a service provider or to customers that use the FedPayments Manager — Funds application via the FedLine Advantage® Solution.
- What is the status of the DIT2 onboarding initiative?
Nearly all organizations that have their own FedLine Direct connection have completed the DIT2 onboarding process. We are working with the remaining customers to complete their DIT2 onboarding . View the latest DIT2 onboarding dashboard in the Implementation Center.
- If we have a FedLine Direct connection today but plan to move to a service provider connection before the ISO® 20022 migration, do we have to complete the DIT2 onboarding process?
If you can complete your migration to your service provider by the end of 2023 you will not need to complete the DIT2 onboarding process. Otherwise, you will need to complete the DIT2 onboarding process.
Testing Requirements
- Where can I find the testing strategy for the ISO® 20022 implementation for the Fedwire® Funds Service and how will we know if we are required to test?
ISO 20022 testing will take place across three testing environments: MyStandards® Readiness Portal, the new Depository Institution Testing environment (DIT2), and the production environment. The Federal Reserve Banks published the Fedwire Funds Service ISO 20022 Testing Requirements and Key Milestones in March 2023. Check this page to determine the testing requirements for your organization. If you are still unsure whether or not you are required to test, please email us at Fedwire.Funds.Format@ny.frb.org.
By the end of 2024, we will provide detailed test scripts for each testing environment and the attestation form on MyStandards.
- Will Fedwire Funds Service customers that use a service provider be required to test?
Testing will be optional for Fedwire Funds Service customers that use a service provider.
- We have our own FedLine Direct® connection but use an “off-the-shelf” vendor product for our payment application without any customization. Do we have to test?
Your software vendor will be able to test on your behalf in the MyStandards Readiness Portal so you will not need to complete this testing. However, you will be required to successfully complete a test script in the DIT2 environment by December 31, 2024. Depending on your volume, you may also be required to test on one Saturday in the production environment in January or February 2025. The dates for the Saturday production tests will be announced in Q4 2024.
- What are the testing requirements for Fedwire Funds Service customers that use the the FedPayments® Manager — Funds application as their primary method to send and receive their Fedwire Funds Service messages?
See the Frequently Asked Questions for the FedPayments Manager for the Fedwire Funds Service via the FedLine Advantage Solution for testing requirements and other information.
- We use our own FedLine Direct connection as our primary method to access the Fedwire Funds Service, but we have access to the FedPayments Manager — Funds application for contingency. Are we required to test with the FedPayments Manager — Funds application ?
You will only be required to attest that you have users with access to the FedPayments Manager — Funds application that know how to use the application to manually enter transactions in a contingency situation.
- Will optional testing be supported?
Optional testing will be supported, but we will only track and report on the status of Fedwire Funds Service customers, service providers, and vendors that are required to test.
- What are the testing deadlines for Fedwire Funds Service customers, service providers, and software vendors?
Fedwire Funds Service customers, service providers, and software vendors will be required to attest that they successfully completed a test script in the MyStandards Readiness Portal before they can schedule their DIT2 certification test. Note: Customers may begin testing in DIT2 before they finish testing in the MyStandards Readiness Portal, but they will not be able to schedule their DIT2 certification until they have successfully completed the MyStandards Readiness Portal test script and attestation form.
The deadlines for completing the DIT2 test script and attestation are:
- April 30, 2024 for service providers and software vendors that have existing Fedwire Funds Service customers to provide sufficient time for them to roll out their software to their clients.
- December 31, 2024 for Fedwire Funds Service customers; however, customers should strive to complete testing by October 31, 2024.
Finally, a subset of Fedwire Funds Service customers and service providers will need to successfully complete a test script in the Fedwire Funds Service production environment on one of the select Saturdays in January and February 2025. The Saturday production testing dates will be announced in Q4 2024.
- What happens if our organization does not meet the DIT2 testing deadline?
The DIT2 testing deadlines are key milestones that if not met could indicate lack of industry readiness for the ISO 20022 migration in March 2025. Service providers, software vendors, and Fedwire Funds Service customers should email us at Fedwire.Funds.Format@ny.frb.org if you have any concerns about your ability to meet these milestones.
- Will there be an end-to-end industry test of a Fedwire Funds Service operating day (“dress rehearsal”) before the March 10, 2025, ISO 20022 implementation? If, so, will the test be conducted in the DIT2 or Production environment?
We will provide several opportunities for certain customers to participate in a “dress rehearsal” industry test in the production environment on select Saturdays in January and February 2025. The dates for these Saturdays will be announced in Q4 2024. These tests are referred to as “Saturday Production Tests” rather than “dress rehearsal”, but they will serve the same purpose. See Frequently Asked Questions for the Saturday Production Environment below for more information.
MyStandards Readiness Portal
- What is MyStandards Readiness Portal and when can we start testing our own test ISO 20022 messages using this tool?
The MyStandards Readiness Portal will be a dedicated testing environment that will allow customers to validate their test ISO 20022 messages against the Fedwire® Funds Service ISO 20022 specifications before beginning testing in the DIT2 environment. Specifically, customers will be able to submit their test ISO 20022 messages to the MyStandards Readiness Portal to ensure that their messages are structured properly and pass various format requirements for each message (e.g., mandatory versus optional data elements, minimum or maximum field lengths, allowable characters or codes). This advance testing will greatly reduce the risk of customers encountering message format errors during the next phase of testing in the DIT2 environment. Certain customers will be required to attest to successful completion of a test script in the MyStandards Readiness Portal before conducting testing in the DIT2 environment. The Federal Reserve Banks made the MyStandards Readiness Portal available to customers on March 10, 2023.
- What is the availability of the MyStandards Readiness Portal?
We intend to make the MyStandards Readiness Portal testing environment available on a 24x7x365 basis.
- Will the MyStandards Readiness Portal contain sample messages that we can use?
Samples of all ISO 20022 messages included in the scope for the Fedwire Funds Service ISO 20022 implementation will be published in the MyStandards Readiness Portal on a flow basis as they become available.
- Will there be a template to create test messages in the MyStandards Readiness Portal?
Users will be able to leverage the sample ISO 20022 messages included in the MyStandards Readiness Portal to create test messages.
- When testing in the MyStandards Readiness Portal is there a way to correct errors on the screen or do I have to cancel the test message and upload a new one?
You can correct errors directly in the test message displayed on the screen and then run the test again to confirm your changes fixed the error. You can continue this trial-and-error approach until you have successfully addressed all errors.
- Where can I find the test script for the MyStandards Readiness Portal?
The MyStandards Readiness Portal test script and testing attestation form are available on MyStandards.
DIT2 Environment
- What is the new Depository Institution Testing environment (DIT2)?
The Federal Reserve Banks have established a second Depository Institution Testing environment (DIT2) that will allow customers to perform dedicated testing with the new ISO® 20022 version of the Fedwire® Funds Service application software.
The existing customer testing environment (DIT) will remain available and include the current production version of the Fedwire Funds Service application software (i.e., Fedwire Application Interface Manual (FAIM) version 3.0.7). Customers can continue to perform application functionality testing with the current format to support internal changes as necessary and enable service providers to onboard new customers before the end of 2024.
- Will there be an opportunity to participate in peer testing in DIT2? If so, will peer testing be mandatory?
Peer testing will not be required but offered using an “opt-in” approach so Fedwire Funds Service customers can test with each other in the DIT2 environment. The Federal Reserve Banks will maintain a list of Fedwire Funds Service customers, service providers, and vendors who would like to opt-in to participate in peer testing with each other in the DIT2 environment. The list will only be shared with those who have opted in to participate in peer testing. Once you have the list, you can coordinate testing directly with each other (e.g., when to test, type of messages to test, etc.). To participate in peer testing, follow the Peer Testing Instructions.
- Where can I find the test script for the DIT2 environment?
The DIT2 and Production Saturday test scripts are published on the Fedwire Funds Service page on the MyStandards® website.
- When will ISO 20022 software be available in the DIT2 environment?
The majority of ISO 20022 messages for the Fedwire Funds Service were deployed to the DIT2 environment on December 15, 2023. The remaining three optional messages, including the investigation request (camt.110), investigation response (camt.111), and extension broadcast (admi.004), will be deployed to the DIT2 environment in mid-March 2024.
- How do I access the DIT2 environment to test the ISO 20022 version of the FedPayments® Manager — Funds application?
Everyone with access to the existing DIT environment today will automatically be granted access to the DIT2 environment. You can access the DIT2 environment in two ways:
- Log into the FedLine Advantage® Solution from the FedLine® Home page as you do today. Once logged on, click on the “Access Test Environment” button. You should see a new “Fedwire Funds DIT2” tab to access the DIT2 environment.
- Contact Wholesale Testing Services and they can provide you with the direct URL.
- Do we need to fill out a test request form to conduct testing in DIT2?
You will be able to access the DIT2 environment when you are ready to begin testing; however, if you need support from Wholesale Testing Services (e.g., Wholesale Testing Services to send you incoming test messages) you will need to submit the appropriate DIT2 Test Request Form – Fedwire Funds Participant or Service/Software Provider – and indicate the type of support you need. You will also need to submit the appropriate DIT2 Test Request Form when you are ready to complete your DIT2 certification testing as this requires coordination with Wholesale Testing Services.
- Can Wholesale Testing Services create test messages for us to test in DIT2?
Yes. To request Wholesale Testing Services to send you select ISO 20022 messages in DIT2, please submit the appropriate DIT2 Test Request Form – Fedwire Funds Participant or Service/Software Provider – and indicate which ISO 20022 message you want to receive.
- Can we do performance or volume testing in DIT2?
Yes. You can do performance and volume testing in DIT2, but you will need to create your own set of test messages to perform this testing. Wholesale Testing Services will not be able to send you a large number of ISO 20022 messages that you could use to conduct your performance or volume testing.
- Are we required to complete DIT2 certification for every ISO 20022 message in scope?
While there are several ISO 20022 messages that are identified as mandatory to send and receive as part of your DIT2 certification, if your organization or your core system does not support one or more of those messages, you can indicate “not applicable” for your certification. Further, while you will not be required to test optional messages as part of your DIT2 certification, if you plan to use any of the optional messages, you should ensure that you can send and receive those messages.
- If a vendor has two payment application products/services, do they have to certify for both products/services?
Yes. We will require vendors to certify each product/service they support for Fedwire Funds Service customers.
- Where can we find sample ISO 20022 messages that include the full message (i.e., message envelope, business application header, and the ISO 20022 business message together) because the samples on the MyStandards Readiness Portal do not include the full message?
Sample messages will soon be available on the private Fedwire Funds Service page on the MyStandards website. Each sample message will include the message envelope, business application header, and ISO 20022 business message.
- Can Wholesale Testing Services send a Fedwire Receiver a malformed message in the DIT2 environment so that we can test our ability to receive a malformed message and respond with an admi.002 message to indicate that we cannot open the message?
No, we will not be able to send Fedwire Receivers malformed messages for testing in the DIT2 environment.
Production Saturday Environment
- What is in scope for Production Saturday environment testing?
We will deploy the ISO 20022 version of the Fedwire Funds Service software to the production environment on select Saturdays in January and February 2025 for Production testing. A subset of Fedwire Funds Service customers and service providers will need to successfully complete a test script in the Fedwire Funds Service production environment on one of these dates, which will be announced later this year.
At a high-level, the Saturday Production Tests will include the following:
- The mandatory testing group will connect to the Fedwire Funds Service production environment from their production environment and send/receive a limited number of test ISO 20022 messages.
- After the ISO 20022 test, we will backout the ISO 20022 software and reinstate the FAIM 3.0.7 software. The mandatory testing group will do the same.
- We will require the mandatory testing group to send/receive a limited number of FAIM 3.0.7 test messages to ensure systems are ready for normal processing.
Additional details are provided in the Saturday Production Test Script which is published on the Fedwire Funds Service page on the MyStandards® website.
- Will we be able to do full functionality testing in the Fedwire Funds Service ISO 20022 production environment during the Saturday production tests?
Full functionality testing should be performed in the DIT2 environment. This environment will include the Fedwire Funds Service ISO 20022 software that will be deployed to the production environment to support the Saturday production tests. Given the limited number of Saturdays available for production testing in January and February 2025 and the number of customers and service providers that need to complete the Saturday production tests, we will only be able to support limited functionality testing in the production environment during the Saturday production tests.
- Where can I find the test script for the Production Saturday environment?
The Saturday Production Test Script is published on the Fedwire Funds Service page on the MyStandards website.
- We are required to participate in Production Saturday testing based on the testing requirements. When will we be notified about the details of this testing (e.g., testing day, testing time)?
In the second half of 2024, we plan to connect with all organizations who are mandated to test in the Production Saturday environment with testing details.
- Will there be opportunities to complete an Operational Readiness Test (ORT) with the FAIM 3.0.7 format in the Fedwire Funds Service production environment on a Saturday before the ISO 20022 implementation?
As published in the 2024 Saturday Production Test Schedule for Fedwire Services, we will support one FAIM 3.0.7 ORT per month. We will not support any FAIM 3.0.7 ORTs in 2025 because we will be preparing for the ISO 20022 migration on March 10, 2025.
