ITYP Description | Proper Usage

Late Return Disclaimer (LR) – Used by the Drawee bank to request a credit entry to dispute a Late Return Claim (LC) debit entry.

If you returned the check within the deadline and want to dispute a Claim of Late Return (LC), submit an LR to the Federal Reserve.

Please refer to Regulation CC (Off-site) for paying bank’s responsibility for return of checks.

Note: This adjustment procedure is offered as a convenience only and does not preclude any party from pursuing its claim in another forum.

of the Federal Reserve Bank’s Late Return Claim (LC) debit entry date.
Same day acknowledgement - Provided requirements are met.* No Entry. Advise the requesting institution to deal directly with the offsetting institution. Respond to request within 20 business days.

A legible copy of the completed Paying Bank's Response to a Claim of Late Return Form (PDF). Refer to the instructions (PDF) and example (PDF) for more information on the required form.

In consideration of the remote work arrangements many of our customers are experiencing due to COVID-19, we are temporarily allowing electronic signatures on Check Adjustment forms that require an authorized, written representation, signature. We will continue to assess these changes, with the expectation to revert back to previous requirements regarding signatures at the appropriate time.

*Same Day Entry/Acknowledgement Requirements

All electronic adjustment requests received by 5:00 p.m. ET with complete information will receive same day entry/acknowledgement. Supporting documentation (attachments) must be provided at the same time the electronic adjustment message is submitted.

All paper adjustment requests received at the Check Adjustments Centralized Data Entry Site by 11:00 a.m. ET with complete information and documentation will receive same day entry/acknowledgement.
